Health Room Procedures
A professional registered nurse staffs this office from 7:25 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. First aid will be administered for minor injuries received at school and to and from school. If an emergency does occur, the student should notify the nearest teacher and go directly to the health office.
Immunizations
Connecticut law mandates that all students be protected by adequate immunizations. These records are maintained in the health office for 50 years. Students who have not been properly immunized will not be admitted to school except in cases where the parent/guardian has provided a certificate from a physician stating that such immunization is medically contradicted.
Physical Examinations
School health legislation requires that all sophomores have a complete physical exam before the beginning of junior year. If written proof of a physical exam on the attached health assessment record, is not submitted by the end of their sophomore year, they will not be allowed to re-enter school the following September. This form is also required for participation in athletics. More information on obtaining a Blue Card can be found on the Athletic Director’s Webpage.
Health Assessment
Medications
Connecticut state law requires a written order by an authorized prescriber and the written authorization of the student’s parent or guardian for school personnel to administer any medicinal preparation including over-the-counter, prescription and controlled drugs. This includes inhalers, epi-pens, and medications such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Students are not allowed to carry or have medication in their possession unless the student self-administers the medication in accordance with a medication administration plan developed by school personnel in conjunction with the student’s parents and prescriber. All medications, except those approved for self-administration, shall be delivered by the parent or other responsible adult to the school nurse or other qualified personnel trained in medication administration. All medications will be administered by the school nurse.
