ISIDORE WISE SCHOLARSHIP
(Connecticut Children's Medical Center)

The Isidore Wise Scholarship Program was established through a generous bequest from Mr. Isidore Wise, a member of the Newington Children's Hospital Board of Directors for 45 years.

This year, there will be 6 scholarships in the amount of $10000 each.  Mr. Wise instructed that the funds be used for scholarships for worthy students who are/have been patients of Newington Children's Hospital, CT Children's Medical Center, and/or the CCMS School.

Applicants must:
Have graduated in June 2022
Enter an accredited post-secondary undergraduate institution in Fall 2022

Several awards of $1000 are offered by the CT Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  Any boy or girl who ranks in the upper 25% of the graduating class (rank must be 49 or better) may apply.  Scholarships are offered to students who plan to enter college as a freshman during the fall of 2022.

THE HARWINTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Harwinton Historical Society will offer a $1000 scholarship.

  • Student must reside in Harwinton and/or active in the Harwinton Historical Society.
  • Scholarship must be used to pursue a post-secondary education by a graduating high school senior or a student currently pursuing education beyond the high school level.
  • Applicant must show an interest in history/social science through coursework and/or experiences.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF NORTHWEST CONNECTICUT

Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Scholarship applications are now available. Multiple college scholarships are available, including many Torrington UNICO scholarships: The Albert C and Rose Turri Scholarship for students planning to study electrical engineering; the United Nations Association Scholarship for students interested in international issues and foreign language; and the Friends of John Ponte Memorial Scholarship, The Apolonia Stanulis, Frances H Ducci, and Jack and Ruth Calder, Helen & Mario Garbin , Shepard Family Scholarships, which are not college-major specific.

BURLINGTON LIONS CHARITIES SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

The Burlington Lions Club is offering 3 scholarships @ $1120.  The scholarships are offered to graduating BURLINGTON seniors who will attend 2-year or 4-year colleges/technical schools. 

Of importance: 

  • community service
  • reasonable grades (not necessarily the top of the class)
  • possible special circumstances that contribute to financial need
  • student who may not receive assistance from other services

Interested students may request the “Main Street packet of information” from Ms. Berardinelli. This scholarship is offered through the Main Street Community Foundation.

JUSTIN WISNIEWSKI FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

These will be education scholarships to benefit the families of firefighters. The Fund will support at least two $500 Firefighters Scholarships.

Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship you must be either: a Firefighter, or the spouse, child, sibling or grandchild of a firefighter. Scholarship A will be awarded to an eligible applicant from the Southington Fire Department. Scholarship B will be awarded to an eligible applicant from any Fire Department in the State of Connecticut. The basis of the scholarship is defined by volunteerism. Because of the nature of Justin’s life, everything was volunteering, whether it was for the Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, Church or helping his friends and family.

LEWIS S. MILLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

The Lewis S. Mills Scholarship Fund, Inc., managed by Region #10 citizens, will award a number of scholarships.  All LSM seniors who will continue their education at 2- or 4-year colleges, vocational schools, or military academies are invited to apply.

The deadline for submission of applications is 3/15/22.  Applications submitted after 3/15/22 and/or incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

In addition to completing the application, students are requested to participate in a 10-minute interview to be scheduled in April.  The interview will be held in the Mills Counseling Department.

KARL J. SCHWARTZ ROTARY AWARD

The Bristol Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc., has a scholarship program available to high school seniors residing in BURLINGTON.  The scholarship program was funded by the late Karl J. Schwartz, a former Rotarian and Bristol native.

The scholarship program may award up to 10 scholarships, $8000 each, to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited 4-year college or university for the entire 2022-2023 academic year.

An essay describing your personal experiences as the relate to the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self” is required

The scholarships are renewable subject to the renewal conditions outlined in the program.

In addition to academic and other requirements, Financial Need is a key consideration in awarding the scholarships.

The Bruce E. Douglas Scholarship for Overcoming Adversity is awarded to deserving high school seniors who are enrolled in a two-year or four-year college for the upcoming year. American Savings Foundation offers scholarships to seniors residing in one of the 64 area towns, one of which is Burlington.  Scholarships range from $1000 - $4000 for the academic year and renewable for up to 4 years.

Scholarships are awarded primarily on:

  • Financial need
  • Academic performance
  • Community involvement
  • Strong desire to achieve goals through higher education

Eligibility:

  • Minimum non-weighted GPA of 2.5 OR be ranked in top 1/3 of graduating class (rank 65 or better)

Two $1000 scholarships will be presented by the CT USBC Association (a bowling organization) to graduating high school seniors.  To be eligible, applicants must be:

High school seniors whose parent/grandparent is currently a sanctioned member of the State USBC Association OR high school seniors who are sanctioned members themselves

Entering institutions of higher learning in the summer or fall semester immediately following high school graduation in 2022

The Harwinton Agricultural Society will award two scholarships of $1500 each.  The same application is sued for either scholarship.

1 – One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior or college student who will be pursuing a course of study in agriculture, family and consumer science, or a related field during the next school year.

2 – One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior or college student who will be pursuing a course of study in any field during the next school year.

  • Reside in a household maintained and supported by a single parent, whether by reason of divorce or death of the other parent
  • Demonstrate outstanding character traits

UNCAS COUNCIL #32 SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship, sponsored by the Uncas Council #32 Knights of Columbus, is in honor and in memory of their deceased members.  The scholarship is renewable for three additional contiguous years, provided the winner shows proof of continued education and upon proof of current grades.  Graduating high school seniors who exemplify charity and service to their community may apply.

Criteria:

  • Accepted to an accredited educational institution
  • Excelled in doing charitable ad community service
  • Exemplified patriotism
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Achieved a sound academic record
