A positive school climate requires positive and supportive leadership. We are looking for up to 40 of this year’s juniors (next year’s seniors) and sophomores (next year’s juniors) to “Link” with the incoming freshmen class; we want students who show both traditional and nontraditional leadership qualities. Link Leaders’ communication skills, leadership potential, responsibility, and personality have helped them to succeed in the high school environment.  We are hoping that lessons you have learned can be shared to help others succeed as well. You can have a tremendous influence on our future students, and you will learn valuable leadership skills on the way. Plus, it will be fun!!

Qualities we are looking for in Leaders are:

  • Strong communication skills

  • Enthusiastic

  • Willingness to lead others

  • Responsible enough to manage a group

  • Accountable

  • Interested in helping others

  • Positive role models

  • Dedicated

  • Accepting of all

  • Self-confident and self-directed

  • Respectful of diverse ideas and personalities

  • Enthusiastic

What does a Link Leader do?  All Link Leaders are trained for 2 days in the late summer to work with the incoming freshman class.  Once the extensive training is complete, Link Leaders facilitate freshman orientation in August before school starts. At the orientation, each Link Leader is given a small group of freshmen to work with that day and to mentor for the school year.  We expect you to befriend and help all the students in your group with any challenges they may face during their first year of high school. In addition, Link Leaders will facilitate P.R.I.D.E. time activities throughout the school year. Research shows that the more contact a freshman has with his/her Link Leader, the more successful they will be.

To that end, please make sure you have the following mandatory dates on your calendar. Remember, being part of our Link Crew is a year-long commitment! We’re excited to have you! As a Link Leader you will be working with a small group of freshman and mentoring them on how to be successful at Mills and how to make our school a safe and positive place! -- Mrs. Vassar and Mr. Fowler ________________________________________________________ For students who were not selected for next school year. Please know that we appreciate your application and that this is a very difficult process for us. Your commitment to our school is recognized and appreciated. Unfortunately, we had more applications this year than available spots for Link Leaders. We are, therefore, unable to select you as a leader this year. There are a number of other ways you may contribute to the success of our school next year. Some of those possibilities are 3 R’s, Student Council, joining a sport or club, working in the school store, as well as many others where you can serve our school community. We would be happy to talk with you about other possibilities and how to further your leadership opportunities for the following year.. If applicable, please consider applying again next year!
