R.E.A.D # 10 SCHOLARSHIP

 

Several scholarships are offered to graduating LSMHS seniors to help with the costs of furthering their education. These scholarships are funded by the employees and families of Regional School District #10.

 

Consideration:

  • Financial need
  • Academic achievement
  • Citizenship

Visionary Scholarship Program will award multiple awards ranging from $1,000-$5,000

CHARLOTTE HUNGERFORD HOSPITAL

AUXILIARY HEALTH CARE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Twelve (12) scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to graduating seniors who:

 

  • Are planning to pursue education in a health care field
  • Have attained at least a “B” average scholastically
  • Are accepted at a college/institution of higher education OR are working toward a degree or certificate in a health care field and are planning a career in the health care field

HARWINTON AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Harwinton Ambulance Association is offering scholarships to Lewis S. Mills graduating seniors who:

 

  • Reside in Harwinton
  • Will continue their education in the field of MEDICINE (paramedic, respiratory therapy, RN, MD, etc.)

KAREN E. DUCOTEY MEMORIAL AWARD

 

A scholarship award is being offered in memory and in honor of Karen E. DuCotey, a former Lewis Mills High School student and Lake Garda Elementary School teacher.

 

Applicant must:

  • Have attended all Region #10 schools and be a current senior at Lewis S. Mills High School
  • Be involved in sports
  • Be seeking a career in the field of Education
  • Be accepted to an accredited school of higher education

Financial need and class rank are NOT factoring in the choosing of the recipient.

ISIDORE WISE SCHOLARSHIP
(Connecticut Children's Medical Center)

The Isidore Wise Scholarship Program was established through a generous bequest from Mr. Isidore Wise, a member of the Newington Children's Hospital Board of Directors for 45 years.

This year, there will be 6 scholarships in the amount of $10000 each.  Mr. Wise instructed that the funds be used for scholarships for worthy students who are/have been patients of Newington Children's Hospital, CT Children's Medical Center, and/or the CCMS School.

Applicants must:
Have graduated in June 2022
Enter an accredited post-secondary undergraduate institution in Fall 2022

JAMES L. and GENEVIEVE H. GOODWIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

(Sponsored by the CT Forest and Park Association and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving)

 

The James L. and Genevieve H. Goodwin Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually for post-secondary education.

 

Applicants must:

  • Be residents of Connecticut in an accredited post-secondary curriculum of Silvaculture or Forest Resource Management
  • Demonstrate academic potential
  • Show financial need

CONNECTICUT D.A.R. SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Several awards of $1000 are offered by the CT Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  Any boy or girl who ranks in the upper 25% of the graduating class (rank must be 49 or better) may apply.  Scholarships are offered to students who plan to enter college as a freshman during the fall of 2022.

 

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of:

  • Scholastic ability
  • Character
  • Leadership potential
  • Financial need

ST. MARY’S WOMEN’S GUILD SCHOLARSHIP

 

St. Mary’s Parish, Unionville, will present up to three $1000 scholarships to students who:

  • Are members of the Parish
  • Are high school seniors wishing to pursue education after high school
  • Demonstrate financial need

Awards will be based upon:

  • Financial need
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Service to church/school/community
  • Essay

The Chief Erick “Junie” Tharau & Past Burlington Volunteer Fire Department Chiefs Scholarship

The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department will award several scholarships to graduating seniors from LSMHS.  To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Be a Burlington resident
  • Have excellent traits of mind and character
  • Have been/will be accepted to an accredited degree-granting college/university

THE HARWINTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Harwinton Historical Society will offer a $1000 scholarship.

  • Student must reside in Harwinton and/or active in the Harwinton Historical Society.
  • Scholarship must be used to pursue a post-secondary education by a graduating high school senior or a student currently pursuing education beyond the high school level.
  • Applicant must show an interest in history/social science through coursework and/or experiences.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF NORTHWEST CONNECTICUT

Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Scholarship applications are now available. Multiple college scholarships are available, including many Torrington UNICO scholarships: The Albert C and Rose Turri Scholarship for students planning to study electrical engineering; the United Nations Association Scholarship for students interested in international issues and foreign language; and the Friends of John Ponte Memorial Scholarship, The Apolonia Stanulis, Frances H Ducci, and Jack and Ruth Calder, Helen & Mario Garbin , Shepard Family Scholarships, which are not college-major specific.

BURLINGTON LIONS CHARITIES SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

The Burlington Lions Club is offering 3 scholarships @ $1120.  The scholarships are offered to graduating BURLINGTON seniors who will attend 2-year or 4-year colleges/technical schools. 

Of importance: 

  • community service
  • reasonable grades (not necessarily the top of the class)
  • possible special circumstances that contribute to financial need
  • student who may not receive assistance from other services

Interested students may request the “Main Street packet of information” from Ms. Berardinelli. This scholarship is offered through the Main Street Community Foundation.

JUSTIN WISNIEWSKI FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

These will be education scholarships to benefit the families of firefighters. The Fund will support at least two $500 Firefighters Scholarships.

Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship you must be either: a Firefighter, or the spouse, child, sibling or grandchild of a firefighter. Scholarship A will be awarded to an eligible applicant from the Southington Fire Department. Scholarship B will be awarded to an eligible applicant from any Fire Department in the State of Connecticut. The basis of the scholarship is defined by volunteerism. Because of the nature of Justin’s life, everything was volunteering, whether it was for the Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, Church or helping his friends and family.
