Students should be aware that if a scholarship application requires a transcript, Ms. Berardinelli will automatically add it to the completed application.

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP

 The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated:

 Eligibility criteria:

  •  Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the U.S., progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer 2018 with place to enter a college in the U.S no later than the fall 2018.

  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the U.S. (Students may start their studies at a 2-year institution and the transfer to a 4-year institution.)

  • Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjuster gross family income).

  • Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities.

  • Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0

  • Be a U.S. citizen.

 Application procedures:

To apply for the scholarship ($6000- $25,000), the following items must be completed

By 10/25/17:

  • An online application at scholars.horationalger.org

  • One Support Form completed online. This must be completed by an adult over the age of 21 who is not related to the applicant and who is aware of the adversities mentioned in the application. This form must be filled out online. Faxes, emails, or letters will not be accepted.

  • Online Certification Form. A login will be emailed to the applicant’s counselor.

  • High School transcript. Applicants should upload a transcript through the application. Transcripts must be submitted online.

  • Income Verification. A copy of the first page of the applicant’s parent(s) federal tax return (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ or 1099 SSA-Social Security form) or tax transcript  (request a tax transcript here www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript) for the 2017 is needed in order to verify income stated on the application. If an applicant’s parents were not required to file a tax return, include statement copies of any government benefits, such as Public Assistance of Disability payment documents. Income verifications may be uploaded online or sent by mail. Applicants of divorced or legally separated parents need to submit tax forms from both parents. No emails or faxes accepted.

The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary

Twelve (12) scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to graduating seniors who:

• Are planning to pursue education in a health care field
• Have attained at least a “B” average scholastically
• Are accepted at a college/institution of higher education OR are working toward a degree or certificate in a health care field and are planning a career in the health care field.

Burlington Police Union Scholarship

The Burlington Police Union Local #2693U is offering a $ 500 scholarship to assist students pursuing their education after high school.  Applicants must be graduating from Lewis S. Mills High School in June 2018.

 Applicants must:

  • Pursue 2- or 4-year degree in a discipline related to Criminal Justice

  • Submit a 1-page essay describing their interest in a law enforcement career

 Scholarship funds must be used in the year granted.

 The Lions Club of Harwinton is offering scholarships to graduating seniors who:

 The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department will award 2 $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from LSMHS.  To qualify, an applicant must:

KARL J. SCHWARTZ ROTARY AWARD

 The Bristol Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc., has a scholarship program available to high school seniors residing in Bristol, BURLINGTON, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Terryville.  The scholarship program was funded by the late Karl J. Schwartz, a former Rotarian and Bristol native.

 The scholarship program may award up to 9 scholarships, $7500 each, to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited 4-year college or university for the entire 2018-2019 academic year.

 The scholarships are renewable subject to the renewal conditions outlined in the program.

 In addition to academic and other requirements, Financial Need is a key consideration in awarding the scholarships.

RUBY HOHBEIN DANIELS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

A scholarship ($2000) will be awarded to a graduating LSMHS senior who will major in Elementary Education.  The recipient must be accepted to an accredited 4-year school and must be a full-time student in the fall of 2018.  Demonstrated financial need will be considered.

HARWINTON WOMAN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 The Harwinton Woman’s Club is offering one $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating high school student this year.

The applicant must:

  • Be a Harwinton girl or boy graduating in 2018

  • Have achieved a scholastic average in the upper half of the class (rank 97 or better)

  • Have shown evidence of good citizenship

  • Give indication of future promise

  • Show financial need for scholarship assistance

PETER LADD /JOHNNY MORAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Miracle League of CT as established a memorial scholarship in the amount of $2500. It will be awarded to a graduating senior from a Connecticut high school who active in the community as a volunteer, especially the special needs community.

 Applicants must meet these criteria to be eligible:

  • Active volunteer in community

  • A graduating senior in good standing from an accredited Connecticut High School

  • Enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited 2 or 4 year college for 2018 fall semester

A scholarship award is being offered in memory and in honor of Karen E. DuCotey, a former Lewis Mills High School student and Lake Garda Elementary School teacher.

 Applicant must:

  • Have attended Lake Garda Elementary School and Har-Bur Middle School and be a current senior at Lewis S. Mills High School

  • Be involved in sports

  • Be seeking a career in the field of Education

  • Be accepted to an accredited school of higher education

  • Financial need and class rank are NOT factors in the choosing of the recipient.

LITCHFIELD COUNTY TAX COLLECTORS ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP

The Litchfield County Tax Collectors Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500.

 The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Litchfield County (Harwinton student)

  • Be a current high school senior

  • Be planning on continuing his/her education (university, college, trade school, other)

  • Be in good standing at school (no suspension or probation for academic or disciplinary reasons)

  • Not be delinquent in property taxes to city or town in which he/she resides

 An essay is required.

LITCHFIELD HILLS AUDUBON SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

 The Litchfield Hills Audubon Society is offering a $2000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior.

 Criteria:

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Litchfield County (Harwinton student)

  • Have been accepted into a college program for Environmental Studies or a related field, and provide proof of acceptance

  • Submit academic transcript, two recommendations from non-relatives, and a brief statement citing the reasons for choosing Environmental Studies as a major
