Several scholarships are offered to graduating LSMHS seniors to help with the costs of furthering their education. These scholarships are funded by the employees and families of Regional School District #10.

Burlington Police Union Scholarship

The Burlington Police Union Local #2693U is offering a $ 500 scholarship to assist students pursuing their education after high school.  Applicants must be graduating from Lewis S. Mills High School in June 2019.

 Applicants must:

  • Pursue 2- or 4-year degree in a discipline related to Criminal Justice

  • Submit a 1-page essay describing their interest in a law enforcement career

 Scholarship funds must be used in the year granted.

 The Harwinton Woman’s Club is offering one $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating high school student this year.

  • Be a Harwinton girl or boy graduating in 2019

  • Have achieved a scholastic average in the upper half of the class (rank 97 or better)

  • Have shown evidence of good citizenship

  • Give indication of future promise

The Litchfield Hills Audubon Society is offering a $2000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior.

 Criteria:

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Litchfield County (Harwinton student)
  • Have been accepted into a college program for Environmental Studies or a related field, and provide proof of acceptance
  • Submit academic transcript, two recommendations from non-relatives, and a brief statement citing the reasons for choosing Environmental Studies as a major

The Litchfield County Tax Collectors Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500.

 The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Litchfield County (Harwinton student)
  • Be a current high school senior
  • Be planning on continuing his/her education (university, college, trade school, other)
  • Be in good standing at school (no suspension or probation for academic or disciplinary reasons)
  • Not be delinquent in property taxes to city or town in which he/she resides

The Scholarship for Overcoming Adversity is awarded to high school seniors who are enrolled in a two-year or four-year college for 2019-2020. The scholarship supports students who, with great potential, have overcome adversity or obstacles to achieve success.

LEWIS S. MILLS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

The Lewis S. Mills Scholarship Fund, Inc., managed by Region #10 citizens, will award several scholarships.  All LSM seniors who will continue their education at 2- or 4-year colleges, vocational schools, or military academies are invited to apply.

Also, any senior who resides in Harwinton and will be studying History or one of the social sciences, there will be 2 scholarships awarded for these fields. One other specific scholarship will be awarded to a student studying forestry or environmental science.

 

The deadline for submission of applications is 3/19/19Applications submitted after 3/19/19 and/or incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

 

In addition to completing the application, students are requested to participate in a 10-minute interview to be scheduled in April.  The interview will be held in the Mills Counseling Department.

100 YEARS OF WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP

The University of Connecticut's Women's Center established the scholarship to honor a high school senior planning to enroll at UCONN, or a current student who, as a role model or advocate, has advanced the role and contributions of women in society. 
The scholarship award ranges from $750-$1000. 
 
Applicant must:
Demonstrate a commitment to womens issues through service in the community or school
Be a current UCONN undergraduate or graduate student who will be enrolled for the Fall 2019/Spring 2020 year, or be a high school senior planning to enroll at UCONN.
Require financial assistance
Demonstrate high academic performance

AMERICAN SAVINGS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
(The Robert T. Kenney Scholarship)

American Savings Foundation offers scholarships to seniors residing in one of the 64 area towns, one of which is Burlington.  Scholarships range from $1000 - $4000 for the academic year and renewable for up to 4 years.

Scholarships are awarded primarily on:
Financial need
Academic performance
Community involvement
Strong desire to achieve goals through higher education

Eligibility:
You are a current high school senior, current college student, or a nontraditional adult student.
Next year, you plan to attend an accredited, Title IV eligible community college, 4-year college or university, or a technical/ vocational program in the U.S.
You are a United States citizen or a non-U.S. citizen who is able to apply for federal student aid; or you have been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, as evidenced by a valid Employment Authorization Card.
High school seniors -- you are either ranked in the top 1/3 of your graduating class or you have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).  Current college students – you have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Isidore Wise Scholarship
ISIDORE WISE SCHOLARSHIP (Connecticut Childrens Medical Center) The Isidore Wise Scholarship Program was established through a generous bequest from Mr. Isidore Wise, a member of the Newington Childrens Hospital Board of Directors for 45 years. This year, there will be 5 scholarships in the amount of $7500 each. Mr. Wise instructed that the funds be used for scholarships for worthy students who are/have been patients of Newington Childrens Hospital, CT Childrens Medical Center, and/or the CCMS School. Ride-4-Justin
These will be education scholarships to benefit the families of firefighters. The Fund will support at least two $500 Firefighters Scholarships. To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship you must be either: a Firefighter, or the spouse, child, sibling or grandchild of a firefighter. Scholarship A will be awarded to an eligible applicant from the Southington Fire Department. Scholarship B will be awarded to an eligible applicant from any Fire Department in the State of Connecticut. The basis of the scholarship is defined by volunteerism. Because of the nature of Justin's life, everything was volunteering, whether it was for the Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, Church or helping his friends and family. This is a rare trait and needs to be acknowledged.

KARL J. SCHWARTZ ROTARY AWARD
The Bristol Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc., has a scholarship program available to high school seniors residing in Bristol, BURLINGTON, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Terryville. The scholarship program was funded by the late Karl J. Schwartz, a former Rotarian and Bristol native. The scholarship program may award up to 9 scholarships, $7500 each, to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited 4-year college or university for the entire 2018-2019 academic year. The scholarships are renewable subject to the renewal conditions outlined in the program. In addition to academic and other requirements, Financial Need is a key consideration in awarding the scholarships.
