LSM Jazz Ensemble

Being America’s only truly original art form, Jazz is an integral and growing part of the music program at Lewis S. Mills High School. At the center of jazz studies at LSM is the Lewis S. Mills High School Jazz Ensemble. This ensemble meets during after school hours, but is a curricular course for which students receive credit for participation.

While membership is open to anyone with previous experience on the instruments listed below, enrollment is restricted by a set number of players. Permission of the instructor is necessary for membership in the Jazz Ensemble and an audition may be required.

The Jazz Ensemble performs throughout the year at a variety of local concerts, and music festivals. In addition, this organization performs at civic events in and around the Harwinton/Burlington area. The ensemble will rehearse and perform a variety of big band jazz music including but not limited to artists such as Miles Davis, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Frank Mantooth, and John Coltrane.
