ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION

MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

 

Any high school senior who is an American Citizen and intends to pursue college-level education is invited to apply to this scholarship.  A “most valuable” student is one who is an outstanding student near or at the top of the graduating class, active in school and community, and recognized as a leader by peers. Recipients are chosen on the basis of:

 

  • Scholarship
  • Leadership
  • Financial Need

RUBY HOHBEIN DANIELS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

A scholarship ($2000) will be awarded to a graduating LSMHS senior who will major in Elementary Education.  The recipient must be accepted to an accredited 4-year school and must be a full-time student in the fall of 2020.  Demonstrated financial need will be considered.

The Lions Club of Harwinton is offering 2 scholarships for $1500 to graduating seniors who:

 

  • Reside in Harwinton
  • Have been accepted to a 2-year or 4-year college/university, or to a technical school
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have achieved at least a “B” average academically

AUXILIARY HEALTH CARE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Twelve (12) scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to graduating seniors who:

 

  • Are planning to pursue education in a health care field
  • Have attained at least a “B” average scholastically
  • Are accepted at a college/institution of higher education OR are working toward a degree or certificate in a health care field and are planning a career in the health care field

BURLINGTON POLICE UNION SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Burlington Police Union Local #2693U is offering a $ 500 scholarship to assist students pursuing their education after high school.  Applicants must be graduating from Lewis S. Mills High School in June 2020.

 

Applicants must:

  • Pursue 2- or 4-year degree in a discipline related to Criminal Justice
  • Submit a 1-page essay describing their interest in a law enforcement career

 

Scholarship funds must be used in the year granted.

HARWINTON YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Harwinton Youth Sports Association (HYSA) is offering two scholarships of $500 each.

 

The applicant must:

  • Be a graduating senior from Lewis S. Mills High School
  • Reside in Harwinton OR have played in HYSA sports
  • Have been active in high school sports
  • Be continuing his/her education after high school

The Harwinton Woman’s Club is offering one $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating high school student this year.

  • Have achieved a scholastic average in the upper half of the class (rank 97 or better)
  • Have shown evidence of good citizenship
  • Give indication of future promise
  • Show financial need for scholarship assistance

LITCHFIELD HILLS AUDUBON SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Litchfield Hills Audubon Society is offering two (2) $2000 scholarships to a graduating high school senior.

 

Criteria:

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Litchfield County (Harwinton student)
  • Have been accepted into a college program for Environmental Studies or a related field, and provide proof of acceptance
  • Submit academic transcript, two recommendations from non-relatives, and a brief statement citing the reasons for choosing Environmental Studies as a major

CONNECTICUT STATE USBC ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

 

Two $1000 scholarships will be presented by the CT USBC Association (a bowling organization) to graduating high school seniors.  To be eligible, applicants must be:

 

  • High school seniors whose parent/grandparent is currently a sanctioned member of the State USBC Association OR high school seniors who are sanctioned members themselves

     

  • Entering institutions of higher learning in the summer or fall semester immediately following high school graduation in 2020

 

Finalists will be required to participate in an interview with the Scholarship Committee.

GLENN MOON SCHOLARSHIP of the

ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED TEACHERS OF CONNECTICUT

 

The Association of Retired Teachers of CT is offering 3 scholarships (1 at $2000 and renewable for 3 subsequent years, and 2 one-time grants of $1500 each) to students graduating from a Connecticut high school (public or private) in 2020.

 

Applicants must:

  • Be Connecticut residents
  • Intend to pursue a career in Education (in public or private schools)

KARL J. SCHWARTZ ROTARY AWARD

 

The Bristol Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc., has a scholarship program available to high school seniors residing in Bristol, BURLINGTON, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Terryville.  The scholarship program was funded by the late Karl J. Schwartz, a former Rotarian and Bristol native.

 

The scholarship program may award up to 10 scholarships, $8000 each, to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited 4-year college or university for the entire 2020-2021 academic year.

 

An essay describing your personal experiences as the relate to the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self” is required

 

The scholarships are renewable subject to the renewal conditions outlined in the program.

 

In addition to academic and other requirements, Financial Need is a key consideration in awarding the scholarships.

ISIDORE WISE SCHOLARSHIP

(Connecticut Children’s Medical Center)

 

The Isidore Wise Scholarship Program was established through a generous bequest from Mr. Isidore Wise, a member of the Newington Children’s Hospital Board of Directors for 45 years.

 

This year, there will be 5 scholarships in the amount of $7500 each.  Mr. Wise instructed that the funds be used for scholarships for worthy students who are/have been patients of Newington Children’s Hospital, CT Children’s Medical Center, and/or the CCMS School.

 

Applicants must:

  • Graduate in June 2020
  • Enter an accredited post-secondary undergraduate institution in Fall 2020

One scholarship $1000 is being offered by The Bristol Choral Society to graduating seniors who are:

 

  • Furthering their education in Music Performance OR Music Education
  • Enrolling in an accredited post-secondary school
  • Residents of Burlington/Harwinton

 

Members of The Bristol Choral Society are not eligible, but members of their family are.

The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department will award 2 scholarships to graduating seniors from LSMHS.  To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Have been/will be accepted to an accredited degree-granting college/university

St. Gregory Rosary Society will present scholarships to graduating seniors continuing their education after high school.

 Applicants must:

  • Be children of registered members of St. Gregory Parish in Bristol
  • Be continuing their education at a 2- or 4-year college or accredited institution

 Applicants will be selected on the basis of:

  • Church involvement
  • Academic transcript
  • Community activities
  • 3 letters of recommendation

 A scholarship will be awarded by the K. C. Baldwin Scholarship Fund Committee, based upon the following:

 Applicants should be pursuing a career in Special Education or related fields (such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy).Handicapped students are encouraged to apply.

  • Applicants will be required to complete an essay.

NANCY H. WHIPPLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

The Nancy H. Whipple Memorial Scholarship has been established in honor Nancy H. Whipple as a permanent remembrance of her.  Nancy devoted 23 years of support to the children of Lake Garda Elementary School, focusing her energy on the success of all students.  Nancy’s cooperative attitude, positive personality, and enthusiasm continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her.  In her role, Nancy became a beloved friend to the entire Lake Garda community.

 

The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Burlington
  • Have attended Lake Garda Elementary School
  • Be graduating from LSMHS in June 2020
  • Be interested in pursuing a career in the field of either Education or Health Services
  • Demonstrate financial need

Applicants must attend a trade school (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, nursing, EMT, automotive, computers, culinary, cosmetology, etc.) and will be considered on the basis of:

The Litchfield County Tax Collectors Association is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500.

 

The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Litchfield County (Harwinton student)
  • Be a current high school senior
  • Be planning on continuing his/her education (university, college, trade school, other)
  • Be in good standing at school (no suspension or probation for academic or disciplinary reasons)
  • Not be delinquent in property taxes to city or town in which he/she resides

    One-page essay is required.

 The scholarship committee will judge applicants upon:

The Catholic Graduates Club of Greater Hartford is offering three scholarships ($2000 each) for use during the 2020-21 academic year.

 

To be eligible for these awards, an applicant must:

  • Be a Catholic student residing in Hartford County (Burlington student)
  • Be planning to attend a 4-year college (does NOT need to be a Catholic school)
  • Be presently attending an accredited secondary high school

The CT Parks Association will offer several scholarships in honor of past president Dennis Malone.  These scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors and will value up to $1000 each.

 

Criteria:

  • Will attend a 2- or 4-year college
  • Will pursue a career in Park Management, Forestry, Horticulture, Agronomy, or closely related fields

 

Selection will be based upon:

  • Financial need
  • Academic achievement
  • Involvement in activities related to the intended course of study
